New Shoes

“We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves…The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, ‘You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.’ The human spirit is indomitable.” –Sir Roger Bannister, first runner to run a sub-4 minute mile

My gait analysis results have me running in a more stable shoe. My new shoe is the Brooks Racer ST5. It’s lighter than it looks at 7.3 oz.

I was a little worried about connecting with the ground the way I could in my Saucony Kinvara shoes, but the transition has been relatively easy. This is my second pair of Brooks. With both pair of shoes I have noticed that I have to run in them a few times before I feel comfortable. After the first run, I thought about returning them but I kept them and ran again. I’m glad I did. So far, I can report a stable, consistent ride. The flexibility is a little stiffer than the Kinvara, and does take some getting used to but worth it.

The ST5 is only offered with a unisex sizing. I usually wear a size 8 in my running shoes and bought these in a size 6 ½.

If I decide not to run in these, I think they would also be a good deer-hunting shoe. 🙂
